Hooked
You hooked me,
twenty-eight years ago,
with your shy smile
and elusive ways.
I was scared
but you were more so
which made me brave.
I would I had known you all my life
(or even before)
but I feel/felt like I had
although it took years for me to find you.
With your rough hewn edges
you taught me to speak up
when before I spoke not.
I have learned to take care
because you have taught me to dare
and today on our 24th wedding memory,
despite our little irritations and frustrations
as an old married couple,
I am hook-line-and-sinker-
in-love-with-you,
and want to use what time is left
together
to bring one and other to God.

WOW, Ellen–this is incredibly beautiful, and moved me to “misty-eyed”. (I’m just a bit envious, wondering if it’s too late for my prince to come…probably, and I’ll manage!) Congratulations on your anniversary–here’s best wishes for many more! God bless you both–love, sis Caddo

Well thank you very much. I’d say never too late. Have heard of first time weddings in 70s– not that you are near that. Mine was late. God bless you, Ellen

I always marvel at those stories, Ellen–wonder if it takes more guts, at 70. I’m 60, and not feeling altogether brave…yet!

Knew someone who married in her 70s and was deliriously happy. If the right person comes, so might the bravery.

Thank you, Arjun, for comments and wishes. Love is what I sought in life and I have been blessed enough to find it. It is scary though, on so many levels. I am NOT complaining. Just stating the case. We have had rough spots with each other with dying parents and such, but we bumbled through. There is lots to be said for monogamy.

Ah so sweet. I could cry. My trip went well Ellen. I have been given a promise ring by my beloved. The one I have talked to you about. It is more special than I even imagined.
I look forward to years of happiness as you have.
Congrats

We had a wonderful visit– good for uncle and us. But I would love to hear about yours unless it is uncomfortable for you. You said something about a ring and a promise of something like I am blessed with. I pray that is true for you! You deserve something beautiful! xx ellen
