Song of Glass
Heavenly bird song
Coming from under my AC
In the torrid heat of the city
Who are you singing to
Such sweet sounds
Like balm to the soul
Are you sent by God
As a messenger
Of the Divine
Your song
A stained glass
Portrait of divine color
Before my eyes
Oh, gentle creature
How do you survive
In the harsh life
Of the city?
Thank you for
A few minutes
Of divinity
Coming to rest
On my fire escape
Every day without fail, birds bring special moments to my life Ellen, and as they do for so many of course. I see woodpeckers swooping gracefully to enter the perfectly rounded apertures they create in the orchard trees. I see wrens and robins hopping around my back door in the expectation of a treat of oats, or perhaps some bug unseen and un-gifted by me. And I hear blackbirds, the most wonderful Turdus Merula, singing their erratic and atonal tunes to me at dusk as if in some unfailing bid to make me laugh. How bland the world might risk seeming without these divine little creatures? H ❤

You are blessed to hear and see so many birds. And, indeed, how bland the world would be without birds! Thank you so much for reading the post and writing your thoughts. ❤ ellen

Lovely post. So nice to hear the birdsong in your NY surroundings. Is the picture an actual stained glass piece?

Amazing, Ellen… It appears that the birds have made their way to the shade of your AC Unit, and reached through your own heart to a far wider audience here. How amazing it is to think, that a bird down in NYC, has sung me a song today… 🙂
Stay cool!
Tell the birds thank you for me…

Dear Meg, Thank you for your sweet note and show of concern. I have not been doing any blog posts or reading of posts for quite some time and I have yet to write a post to explain why because I am just understanding little by little what has happened to me. Lots of hard stuff. I will post something in the near future. I think of you and others I care about but have been unable to do more than that. Apologies to you and thank you for reaching out. Love, Ellen
