Summer Inertia?

Am I caught in a web

like a fly in a drainpipe?

Or is it summer inertia,

The lazy, hazy daze?

Could it be

I have lost it totally

to a pharmaceutical lobotomy?

Or am I processing still

retreat with Mooji?

Anger is more controlled

and that is good

but creativity has taken a vacation and

kidnapped my muse leaving

no urge to make new words or pictures?

Anxiety rules

and love flows

making me bow my head in prayer

and that is good

but what has happened to me?

I do not understand what I read

and have trouble processing

and cannot even comment.

Perhaps I am empty…

  1. Just resting; no need to struggle like the fly in a web? If love is flowing, as you say it is, then trust in it to release you, as surely it will Ellen. H ❤

    • Dear, dear Hariod, Leave it to you to have encouraging, wise words to say. It’s been a long dry spell. I will take hope in what you say. ❤ <3, ellen

❤ The analogy is wonderful, Ellen; the images incredibly emotive with the words.

I'm with Hariod. Take the rest, trust the process. Stay strong. You will come through.

Ellen, your creativity is alive as ever, the fact that you still take fantastic photos and write amazing poetry with vivid metaphors and images, proves that.

Your muse is a being little sneaky! …having you doubt yourself and turn that doubt into a fab poem. 😉

  5. I only too well identify with what you have written. Beautifully empty. So full with empty that is is full with LOVE. Love truly flows from your words and your images. Thank you.

    • Thank YOU, Kitt!! Wow! You can see love because honestly I can’t. And YOU feel the same way. This gives me much hope. It was so hard to post. I am off Zyprexa for months now and am on an old antipsychotic like Thorazine so I thought I had lost all creativity. But love is more important.

      • Thorazine will definitely dull you, but your health is most important. Your words and images were divine – literally. There is a beauty to emptiness. Love is without doubt out-trumps all else.

      • You are so right, Kitt. And especially about love. And emptiness. I should know from my retreat with Mooji that emptiness is good. I just feel I have lost all bearings and don’t know what is there. So appreciate your comments!! Thank you.

  7. Hi Ellen,

I wouldn’t worry about the departure of the creative muse, as you say. Sometimes our creativity arises as an assertion of what we want to say, and when Love is nudging us towards a different idea of ourselves, then the old muse seems to have abandoned us. You will realize the presence of the new one soon enough! What is new feels different, and we have to traverse a bit of emptiness at times to skip to a new channel. As Genie has noted, already the new is peeking through with poise and presence… When we don’t recognize ourselves, it can seem like something is missing, but there are ways in which this space allows for the greatest of discoveries.

I do love the photo’s with your words. Honoring what is present is a beautiful practice, and being able to capture the images to communicate it is not easily done… Perhaps your emptiness is an altogether new form of full… 🙂

    • Thank you so much for the encouraging comment, Michael. Perhaps, as you say, I am just lost. I will have faith in what you say and I thank you so much for caring to write about it.

      Much love, Ellen

  13. Ellen, this poem truly touches me. Even a drainpipe or rust have expressive language of their own, and this is why I like this poem. I’ve also had my struggle with medicine. I usually under dosed myself for fear of the secondary effects. Now I’m back with a regular dose of Effexor 75mg because otherwise my mind will not stop. Please do not panic and you’re not alone.

    • Oh, dearest Maria,

I am so touched by your comment and your encouragement. It is good to know I am not alone. I am afraid of all medications at this point. I am taking my basics but don’t want to try anything new. We do need the basic meds, don’t we. Don’t feel badly about it. Thanks for writing such a caring response. Big hug, Ellen
