The Haunting
The haunted look
in the eyes
the plastic tags
in the ears
the bit of grass
in the coat
of a tender soul
behind bars
*
One day
the haunted
will arise in glory
their souls ablaze
with triumph
*
One day
we will pay
our dying hearts
haunted
by the very souls
hunted
by the likes of us
I am unable to understand why anyone who puts animals in these situations can not be haunted by what they see and feel. I guess they don’t really see or feel. And one day they will be forced to. God tells us that. I believe that. I am leaving a quote here that I think of in theses situations- Life is as dear to a mute creature as it is to man.Just as one wants happiness and fears pain, just as one wants to live and not die, so do other creatrues. I’m so sorry for your loss. There’s nothing helpful I can say, but I am thinking of you and hoping you’re smiling again soon xxx

Me, too. I hang my head also. I still eat chicken, fish and dairy. And we kill mice that come in the house with poison pellets. It’s awful! Just awful! Have tried other ways. It seems hypocritical of me to write these poems but I feel the need to start somewhere and I stopped eating beef, lamb and pig some time ago for moral reasons.
