TRIUMPH OF SPIRIT IN LOVE, NATURE & ART

Please don’t demonize psych meds

To all those who condemn we who are on psych meds…

idk

I’m really tired of people saying stuff like “I don’t believe in medications, it’s all about Big Pharma wanting money and doctor’s getting kickbacks. You shouldn’t take any meds! Power through it! The human body wasn’t designed to exist on chemicals!”

You know what else the human body wasn’t designed to do? It wasn’t designed to function on chronically low serotonin and dopamine levels. It wasn’t designed to be in a constant state of depression, anxiety, or emotional fluctuation. Being bipolar or depressed or manic or obsessive-compulsive are chemical imbalances that cannot always be cured through the use of diet and exercise alone.

I believe that in this case, and in many cases, you cannot demonize something when you have never had a cause to experience it. If you have never been in a place where a pill, one single little pill, can be the difference between sobbing in your bed all…

    • You’re most welcome, and your daughter, too. I thought it was definitely worth a reblog. In fact, I was just dealing with a “friend” who was imperious about me having to take meds, etc. And I got mad and found this post and the author expressed everything so well. Thanks for writing. xxx ❤ ellen

  3. I quite agree Ellen. Those who say such things I often think don’t need the help these meds can provide. Not everything can be healed in this life nor fixed with herbal supplements. I take some meds for PTSD sleep problems. I am grateful for it.
I spent a week of no sleep until I couldn’t take it anymore. People need to see things in a more balance view. Not just their view or the one they think is the best for everyone.

  4. Thank you for your reply and support in this. I am very sorry you have PTSD. It seems people look down on you for taking psychiatric drugs. The big thing would be to forgive them for they do not know and I try to, maybe not hard enough. Many times I just get mad. Hope you are doing better, dear Yisraela. Take care of yourself. xx oo ellen

It’s disappointing that this is still all too common, Ellen. Funny how the same ones are so quick to rush off to grab the antibiotics… :/

That’s terrible. It always seems so much harder when those we let in to our lives and label friends fail us, even in the smallest ways. They usually mean no harm, and probably believe they have our best interests in mind. But the whole non-drug movement kind of miss the point entirely… xx

      • Thank you, Running Elk, for your understanding once again. Well, it’s best I know how this friend thinks. Probably she thought she was helping… You have bigger problems to think about than my little things. Thank you, Kind Heart!! xxellen
