Love and pride in the mother’s eyes, complete trust in the infant’s sleep
Away in a Manger
Unmistakable pride
in the smile
on the mother’s face
bonding with her
babe asleep beside her
in utter security
in utter trust
of their caretakers
unknowing of their future fate
at the bloody hand
of man.
Mother and Child
Proud mother,
smiling unmistakable smile
as little lamb, curled up,
sleeps safelyย beside her,
for now.
Tomorrow
ย both mother and child
will cry anguishedย tears,
ย sufferย a searingย separation,
as they take little oneย away,
hopefullyย out of sight and sound
of mother,
to bring littleย lambย to slaughter
for a holiday meal.
