Ilness has stolen my words and clouded my vision, but not killed my hope that a new diagnosis and treatment will fix what has been broken a long time. Hope to be back to regular reading of favorite blogs, commenting and writing posts soon.

Oh God,
where art thou?
I feel Thee not near me
clouds obscure Thy light
fields lie barren like my soul
Love was in my heart
but I feel it not
all is obscured
Pain and illness
shroud all light
in shadows of darkness
joy but a faint memory
as the mountains
in the grey distance
hope is out of season
bountiful is despair
a sin
yes
I sin the sin of darkness
and wish I could blend
into the greyness
and retire
into nothingness
Oh God,
forgive my ingratitude
for my many blessings
now shrouded in the night
so I can no longer see
Come to me
breathe life into my soul again
and let me see Thy Light
let me see love again
it was there
how does it seem to vanish
and take with it all hope
for why else is there to live?

Here one second,
the next, gone,
with traces only in our hearts.
The ephemeral nature
of all life.
Our loved ones,
people and creatures,
here with us
for a pause in eternity
and gone for seeming eons.
*
It is as the Hindus say
all “Maya,”
a dream of life,
an apparition,
some form of us
awakens one day
somewhere
we know not
when or where or how
right now.

In the freshness of the forest
I like to think
there are beings of light
especially after a rain
dancing in the green scented air
some call them aberrations
of the digital age
but I think them not unlike
the perception
of fleeting flecks of light
seen against an empty sky
I marvelled at as a child
and was flatly told they were floaters on the eye
floaters they are not
rather they speak to me still
decades later
in hushed whispers
of the mystifying mystery
of the air we breathe
and the light we see
everyday without thinking.

As Spring competes with Fall
for foliage
tree trunk dinosaurs
roam
the spotted green
tusset grass in the marsh.

Before the green has come
before the night has fallen
after the rains have come
scintillating drops of light
drip moonlike
over a lonely pine

I am tres desolee
today
spring blossoms
morph to snow
when drained of color
against a grey sky
as I morph to lows
after a false high

The attack
not killer bees
nor locusts
nor hornets
nor any insect
but the contents
of the mind
Tied up in knots
not safe
not secure
not strong
not peace
Sick with
the plague of fears
negative thoughts
insidious
invidious
poison
killing joys
bringing tears
of pain
and loss
and grief
The swarms cloud the sun
taking away the Light
and all it enraptures
attacking
the very source
of life
Love

In the golden hour
Spring sprouting trees
dainty with bud,
a delicate delight
devoured
by the hungry devotee.

Tuesday was the first day of Passover and Sunday is Easter. A holy season.
Below a holy song by Yusuf/Cat Stevens says it all — whatever denomination.

“Washed out” colors soon will be scintillating
and bare branches budding
with brown bush breaking out in full flowering regalia.

What is referred to as the “washed-out” landscape
of March
is brimming with the glow of secret growth
about to burgeon forth
into a verdant folly of spring green.

Winter is dying
and dead trees
are coming to life.
Your sap is starting to flow
bringing forth birthing buds
of spring as
people clammer
for the greenery of summer.
But I love you most
when you are naked, nude, and vulnerable,
stripped bare of beautiful-to-be sure
spring/summer finery.
I mourn your fleeting filigree
on this snow-showery day
of comforting gloom and grey
and feel kinship with you
as you stand staunch against the cold
and stark against the feathery flakes of white.
I think you most beautiful
in your bare-arm-intricacy,
and lace-like, linear patterns
drawn against a back-drop of sky,
as you reach for the Almighty.

Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) was a Dutch painter who believed in the spiritual in nature. His art was an expression of that spirituality. He believed that the trees, the verticals in nature, were the masculine principle, and the earth, the female. Together the union of the male and female constituted the beauty of creation. He started out painting vibrant trees and eventually wound up painting complete abstractions of vertical and horizontals with primary colors– very unlike his early landscape painting, but the underlying principles were the same.

Scintillating snow melts
and fills a pre-Spring marsh
full of sparkling jewels
where bedazzled frogs
soon will hide.

The lattice work of the trees
against an ominous sky
portends the end of winter.

Grace flows through the limbs of a tree reaching skyward, its intricate patterns of branches pleasing the eye– just as grace flows through the orderly, spikey branches of frost on a window.
Patterns repeated ad infinitum in all creation.
A microcosm of the macrocosm and a macrocosm of the microcosm.
God’s breath breathes through all.
